Celebrating 20 years
The Coastal Regional Solid Waste Management Authority was formed in 1990 as a partnership between Carteret, Craven and Pamlico counties. The name was shortened in 2008 to the Coastal Environmental Partnership, or CEP. CEP's purpose is to provide an environmentally sound, cost effective system of solid waste disposal for the citizens of the three member counties.

The Coastal Environmental Partnership is a public authority, governed by a 7 member Board of Directors appointed by the County Commissioners of the member counties. CEP operates four facilities:
  • Administrative Office
  • Tuscarora Landfill
  • Newport Transfer Station
  • Grantsboro Transfer Station
Electronics (TV's and Computers) are accepted for recycling in Craven, Carteret and Pamlico Counties year round. To find the drop-off location and schedule for your county, please call:

These items are banned from the Tuscarora Landfill and all landfills in North Carolina.

NEWS RELEASE: Certificate of Achievement
The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to Coastal Regional Solid Waste Management Authority by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR).  The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

An Award of Financial Reporting Achievement has been awarded to the individual(s), department or agency designated by the government as primarily responsible for preparing the award-winning CAFR.  This has been presented to Miriam S. Sumner, Finance Officer.

The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, IL, and Washington, D.C

Updated Three-Year Update to the 10-year Solid Waste Management Plan
The Coastal Environmental Partnership (CEP) has prepared the 2012 update to the area's Solid Waste Management Plan. Pursuant to the Intercounty Solid Waste Agreements between the CEP and the three counties, and the Interlocal Solid Waste Agreements between the CEP and the municipalities in the counties, the responsibility for preparing the solid waste plan is delegated to the Partnership. This plan has been reviewed and approved by the CEP Board of Directors and by the Boards of County Commissioners of Carteret, Craven and Pamlico counties.
